Founded in April 2012, Unite Women New York Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 not -for-profit women’s organization that began it’s mission with a late night phone call the founder Desiree Jordan made in the early morning hours of February 19th 2012. It was this call that sparked a grassroots movement utilizing social media to galvanize thousands of women to march on 50 State Capitols on 4/28/12 for gender equality and autonomy for all American women.
In 2011 and 2012, eight states passed laws mandating medically unnecessary vaginal ultrasounds for women seeking reproductive rights and autonomy over their own bodies. The Reproductive Health Act, if passed will guarantee a woman her birthright to control her reproductive health.
Demanding equal pay for equal work. Full time working women lose approximately $22, 340,027,689 (or 64 weeks of food, four and a half months of mortgage and utility payments, nine months of rent, three years of family health premiums, or more than 2,000 additional galloons of gas) each year due to the wage gap.
